From "Evil Dive" to "Kitty's Hurling," in My Cats, August Meriwether presents quirky observations of his home-bound feline kingdom. His views on cat behavior are often based on real-life experiences, yet periodically on delusions induced from the dust of kitty litter. As with other stories of unsavory behavior, names of the cats involved have been changed to protect the identities of the guilty. The twenty-five short poems in this collection are meant to expose the frustration of owning (tending to) cats, but Meriwether has adapted and now acknowledges with a sigh that "things happen." Each engagement with a feline requires handling them as if they are internationally recognized actors and actresses, because they are special in their own individual ways. Perhaps "Dinner Time" best describes his periodic angst: "You lick my nose. I know you're hungry. You bite my toes. I know you're hungry. You scratch, I bleed. I know you're hungry. My mouth I feed.
